Must Go’s – Remembering Whitney – The Greatest Love Of All

The 22nd of March 2019 was the night KLites got the chance to relive the legend that is Whitney Houston at the newly renovated Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur. There was not a single bad seat in the house as Trina Johnson Finn’s powerful voice resonated to the far corners of the hall. It was such a wonderful experience to not only listen to Whitney’s greatest hits, but also to look upon the joyous faces of some Whitney fans who danced along to the beat in their seats.

She came from Las Vegas, she sang and she channelled Whitney Houston for the night. Clad all in black for the first half of the show, Trina Johnson Finn commanded the stage and gave the crowd perfect renditions of Whitney Houston’s classics such as “I Will Always Love You, “I Have Nothing”, Where Do Broken Hearts Go”, and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”. This special night was also wonderfully graced by the presence of the Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom binti Abdullah.

Before Trina took the stage, the crowd was treated to a special performance from two very young and talented aspiring musicians! Roy Wong, 13, wowed everyone with his powerhouse vocals, belting out “The Greatest Love of All” with local songbird – Tria Aziz.

Without missing a beat, Falizstha Sarafina Subahan, 15, sang a beautiful rendition of “Run to You”. Growing up listening to Whitney, Roy and Falizstha were thrilled to be able to perform some of her greatest hits. “Whitney’s music was challenging but it had a lot of soul to it! It’s a very surreal experience being here,” added Falizstha. It was great to see that Malaysia has so many budding talents in the music industry and hopefully, they’ll continue their craft in years to come.
